Focus on the Family Announces 2010 Christmas Campaign
From shopping with a purpose to raising money for vulnerable children, helping others is at the heart of this season's efforts
November 16, 2010
Colorado Springs, Colo. – Focus on the Family’s 2010 Christmas campaign encourages consumers to shop with a purpose and help others by supporting retailers that give back to the local community or charitable causes.
Spearheaded by CitizenLink’s millennial outreach Rising Voice, the Christmas effort provides an online site for shoppers to recommend their favorite, socially responsible stores and browse stores recommended by others. The featured retailers at Rising Voice.com http://www.risingvoice.com/ either give a portion of their profits to those in need or sell items that are made by vulnerable people.
“Twenty-somethings want to help others in tangible ways,” explains Dawn McBane, who heads up Rising Voice. “That’s why this year’s Christmas campaign highlights ways people can live out the true meaning of the season: giving hope to others and loving our neighbor.”
Rising Voice defines “neighbor” as someone living in the local community – as well as those around the globe. This is why the group is also celebrating Christmas by partnering with Children’s Hope Chest http://www.hopechest.org/, a nonprofit organization that “changes the story” of orphaned and vulnerable children around the world by providing them with aid and support.
Rising Voice is joining this cause by leading an effort to raise $10,000 with Children’s Hope Chest. The money raised will be used to protect girls in Russia from being kidnapped into the sex slave trade – a “business” that UNICEF estimates harms more than 1 million children around the world each year.
“We have the opportunity to preserve the innocence and human dignity of a child in need through a simple monetary donation,” says McBane. “I can think of no better gift to give this Christmas season… which is why, although Rising Voice is a millennial outreach, we’re encouraging people of all ages to participate in the Rising Voice Christmas campaign.”
