Focus on the Family’s Clubhouse Magazine Encourages Children to Spend Summer Break Helping Others

Latest summer challenge to aid children and orphans in Rwanda

May 23, 2011

Colorado Springs, Colo. --  Clubhouse Magazine has a summer challenge for its elementary and middle school-aged readers: Read to Raise the Roof on a new ministry outreach center for children and orphans in Rwanda.

Thanks to a joint effort with Youth Might, a ministry that has been helping orphans and children in the African country of Rwanda for more than 13 years, Clubhouse will help construct a building that will include a kitchen to provide meals to needy children; workrooms to give older orphans jobs; classrooms where students can learn English and take Bible classes; and dorm rooms for the orphans to sleep in.

"Through Clubhouse Magazine, we teach our readers that every person is precious and loved by God," said Clubhouse Editor Jesse Florea. "We also emphasize the importance of helping those who can't help themselves. This wonderful effort with Youth Might encourages our readers live out their faith, even at a young age, by helping kids around the world who are just like them in many ways."

Clubhouse readers will work to make the outreach center a reality by helping raise $350,000 to fund the project. They'll do this by finding sponsors willing to donate a penny for every page the child reads, with each participant trying to read at least 1,000 pages. Clubhouse will then send the proceeds to Youth Might, where 100 percent of the money will go towards building the outreach center. The deadline for donations is August 31, 2011.

"To know that children around the world are reading to help these precious orphans is one of the biggest miracles," said Youth Might Coordinator Monique Ladosz. "Our hope and prayers are to expand so more and more of these young people will know Jesus as Savior."
