Colorado Springs, CO – Three Focus on the Family magazines were recently recognized at the Evangelical Press Association (EPA) convention in Portland, Ore. Breakaway, Clubhouse and Clubhouse Jr. were among the honorees as the 2008 Higher Goals and Awards of Excellence prizes were awarded to leaders in the evangelical periodical community for the year 2007.

Breakaway, a magazine for teen males, came in first place for its article titled “End Slavery Now” in the General Article: Long category. Eighty-eight other articles were up for this award. Breakaway also came in third place in the Devotional and Original Art categories and fourth place in the Fiction group.

Clubhouse magazine for 8-12-year-old boys and girls came in fourth place in the Cover and Personality Article categories and third place in the Fiction group, right behind Clubhouse Jr. magazine, which took first place in that category with the article “Copycat Fever.”

Clubhouse Jr., Focus on the Family’s magazine for 4-8-year-old boys and girls, also won second place in the Poetry category and third place for the Cartoon group.

“Receiving these awards is a great honor, since the entries are judged by professionals in both Christian and secular publishing,” said Tom Neven, youth outreach editorial director at Focus on the Family. “It speaks well of the talent and professionalism of our magazine staffs.”
