If your child encounters sexually explicit material on a computer at school or at the public library, here are some things you can do:

• Contact the library and ask about its Internet filter policy.
• Ask if the library abides by CIPA.
• If so, recount your child’s experience.  It’s possible that a librarian turned off the filter at an adult patron’s request – which is legal and permissible – and did not reactivate the filter on the computer.
• If not, ask what safeguards are in place to protect your child in the future.
• Be informed of your community's decency standards.  
• Call your local library and ask about its policy for restricting minors from checking out adult-rated games and movies.  If they do not have a policy, ask that your child’s library card be restricted from checking out this material.

The strongest defense against the messages in pornography and inappropriate sexuality is to give children a compelling biblical worldview regarding God's design for sexuality and relationships--focusing on the good, the true, and the beautiful. Talk with your child about God’s design for sexuality.
