Drug Proof Your Kids
A program designed to help parents grasp the reality of drug use, and take preemptive action against it.
The disturbing truth is, the majority of parents of children who've used illicit drugs at one time believed their kids were not at risk. How to Drug Proof Your Kids™ (DPYK) is designed to help parents grasp the reality of drug use in our culture today, and take preemptive action to avoid its devastating results. The lure of tobacco, alcohol and illicit drugs on children is dangerously strong and its impact is often deadly. According to recent surveys,
- 3.8 million young people aged 12 to 17 smoked cigarettes or used tobacco.
- Binge drinking (defined as drinking 5 or more drinks at one time at least once a month) is greatest among young adults 18 to 25.
- Marijuana continues to be the most commonly used illicit drug.
- There has been a significant increase in the use of pain relievers for non-medical use among those 12 and over.
- 12.4 million Americans over the age of 12 have tried methamphetamine.
How to Drug Proof Your Kids™ is a values-based program that gives parents the confidence to build strong relationships with their children through proven, creative tools and modeling. The goal is to help parents raise courageous children who make healthy choices in life.
The program is formatted into four, two-hour parent workshops led by trained facilitators and are rooted in awareness and prevention models. Through compelling facilitator-led talks, activities, workbook questions and discussion groups, sessions explore the following topics in-depth:
- Becoming keenly aware of the abuse of different drugs.
- Understanding why kids are drawn to and use drugs.
- Educating and influencing kids to make good choices.
- Getting equipped with prevention strategies.
