Empowering Your Kids to Participate in Bring Your Bible to School Day!
It’s amazing—and convicting—to see what God can do through multiple thousands of students, from kindergarten to college, bringing their Bibles to school as a visual way to celebrate religious freedom and share God’s hope with friends!
Do you agree with us that the spiritual courage of these youth is a refreshing and inspirational light during a time of increasing spiritual darkness? If so, then you’re probably wondering what you can do as a parent to help empower students who have a heart for making a difference for Christ! Here are some tips:
Help Raise Awareness
We’ve made this easy by providing social media graphics that you can immediately share on your own social-networking pages.
Share the Parent/Pastor guide with your senior pastor, youth leader and children’s minister. They will find easy-to-use tools, including downloadable church inserts, to help get the word out to students in your church.
Communicate with school officials
If your child is participating, particularly if they are in a younger grade level, it’s a great idea to talk to school officials in advance and let them know. You can explain that your child is participating in a religious-freedom event and that they are planning to do so in a respectful and peaceful manner and in a way that does not disturb instruction time. If school officials have questions, you can provide them with the legal memo that explains students’ rights to participate. You can also read the Bring Your Bible to School Day FAQs to prepare yourself for other questions that may arise.
Some schools offer outlets (often via email or social-networking forums) for parents to share or submit announcements about events in which their children are participating. If you have the opportunity to share information in that type of forum, here is a downloadable parent-oriented announcement that may help—and is suitable for adult/school-related forums.
Note: It is best if, as a parent sharing with other parents, you use this announcement—rather than other Bring Your Bible to School Day free-speech materials made available to equip students and for use in student forums.
Equip your kids' hearts and minds!
Spiritually. Be sure to pray with your children before the event. The Parent/Pastor guide also includes Bible verses you can discuss with them, as well as Bible studies and activities you can do with your children to encourage their hearts beforehand.
Mentally. There are also articles in the teen and elementary versions of the event guides that will help strengthen your child’s trust in the Bible’s guidance and accuracy.
And last but not least: Celebrate God’s faithfulness with your children and remind them they are not alone! A great way to do this is to watch some of the student-story videos with your kids!
