Celebrations are ways to remember significant events and to share joy with loves ones. The concept of celebration is woven throughout Scripture. How can couples grow closer through celebration?

Discuss Luke 15 as a couple. Focus your conversation on the following questions.

“It was fitting to celebrate and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost, and is found.” — Luke 15:32.

  • What are your favorite celebrations and why?
  • What aspects of our marriage prompt you to want to celebrate?
  • How does celebrating the events of our life together make our marriage stronger?

The concept of celebration is woven throughout Scripture. In Numbers 9:1-14 and Deuteronomy 16:1-6, God outlines specific ways for the Israelites to celebrate Passover. And after the Jewish exiles return from Babylon and rebuild the temple, they celebrate spontaneously (Ezra 6:16). In the parable of the prodigal son, the father celebrates when the repentant son returns (Luke 15:24). Celebrations are ways to remember significant events and to share joy.

Observing special events can strengthen marital bonds by helping a couple focus on the good things that have happened in their marriage and the obstacles they’ve overcome together.

Celebrations can also help remind us of God’s goodness and faithfulness so we don’t forget what He has done in our lives.
