When you see your marriage through God's eyes, you'll discover the divine purpose He had in mind when He brought you together. Here’re a few questions to start a conversation about that topic.

As a couple, discuss the book of 1 Peter. Read each chapter together or individually, then focus your conversation on the passage and discussion questions below.

“Honor everyone” (1 Peter 2:17).

  • What makes you feel appreciated?
  • How do you “honor” someone?
  • How can we honor each other in our marriage?

As I think about how my wife, Jean, and I have tried to honor each other throughout nearly three decades of marriage, our habits have been relatively simple. For example, we’ve always tried to consult each other about major decisions. We’ve also honored each other with our conversation — including how we speak about each other to family, friends and neighbors.

Regardless of how you feel about your relationship, step back and ask yourself how the Lord sees your spouse and your marriage. When you see your marriage through God’s eyes, you’ll discover the divine purpose He had in mind when He brought you together.
