How Do I Pray for Them?

Now I lay me down to sleep.
Dear Lord, I pray for you to keep
My brother and sister out of my hair;
They drive me crazy—it’s just not fair!

Have you ever prayed a prayer like that? It’s easy to become bothered by your siblings. But deep inside, you love them and want the best for them. God encourages us to pray good prayers for our brothers and sisters. As we pray for them, God can change our heart. It’s not always easy to know how to pray for our siblings, but you can begin by trying these prayer starters. Use the Scriptures given and personalize them with your brother’s or sister’s name. Example: “I pray that (brother’s name) would love the LORD God with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his strength.”

Pray that your brother or sister . . .

1. desires to know God above all else. (Verses to read: Deuteronomy 6:5 and Matthew 6:33)

2. learns and follows God’s ways by reading the Bible. (Verses to read: Joshua 1:8 and Psalm 119:11)

3. seeks wisdom and make good choices. (Verses to read: Psalm 37:5 and Proverbs 3:5-6)

4. gets along well with others. (Verses to read: Luke 6:31 and 1 John 4:11)
