Breaking this code comes down to knowing which lights to read and which ones to ignore. Read the letters in red, yellow and blue, but ignore the rest. That’s it!

Edward H. Johnson, a friend of Thomas Edison and vice president of the Edison Electric Light Company, was the first person to decorate a Christmas tree with electric lights. He had 80 lights especially made for him, in red, white and blue colors. Though his tree went live on December 22, 1882, the lights were so expensive that people didn’t start putting electric lights on their own trees until around the 1920s.
