School Survival 101

Nervous about your first day of school? Relax. It’s normal! These tips will get you through your first day.

1. The week before school starts, make a checklist of things you’ll need. Before you head out the door, go over the list to make sure you have everything.

2. Set your alarm 15 minutes early so you can spend some time with God to start your day off right.

3. Remember that everyone else feels nervous, too–even if they don’t act like it.

4. Don’t wait for others to speak to you. Be the first to start a conversation with new or old friends.

5. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you’re going to a new school and can’t find your class or a restroom, ask someone where it is. Most people are glad to help.

6. Keep your sense of humor. Laugh about stressful or embarrassing moments.

7. Make a good first impression on teachers. Be on time. Listen in class. Participate in discussions.

8. Smile. It opens doors of friendship and puts those around you at ease.

9. Tape an encouraging Bible verse to your notebook or backpack to read during the day. Try Psalm 46:1, 56:3 or 91:14-15.

10. Last–but far from least–PRAY! God loves you, and He will listen and come to your rescue. Put God first. It’s the best way to start a fantastic school year!
