Eden took a knitting class through Eagle Home School and discovered she really enjoyed it. Now she makes hats for newborns — lots of them.
“A friend of mine was knitting and donating caps to the hospital, and I thought it was a good idea,” Eden says.
This 12-year-old from Michie, Tennessee, fashions her creations using different textures and colors. There are soft, fuzzy yarns, best for babies’ sensitive skin, and funky yarns that really stand out. The knitting loom Eden uses allows her to finish some hats in as little as 10 minutes. She also knits scarves and other challenging projects.
“I want to do baby blankets once I get a bigger loom,” she says.
Her advice for other kids who are thinking about knitting? “Go for it. It’s exciting when I get done with a hat.”
A Good Resource
Eden donates the caps to Resource Center for Women in Corinth, Mississippi, which helps women who are expecting babies. The center provides clothes, diapers, pacifiers, blankets and even colorful booties.
An ultrasound machine lets women see their babies before they’re born. When a baby has been growing inside her mother for just a couple months, an ultrasound picture can show the baby’s eyes and ears, arms and legs, tiny fingers and toes, and a beating heart.
“I remember seeing an ultrasound of my little sister Rachel,” Eden says.
These early pictures help moms (and big sisters) get ready to love the new little one in their lives.
After a baby is born, many moms continue to visit the Resource Center for advice and to restock on diapers and clothes. Eden enjoys having so many babies around. “I love holding them,” she says. “They can get tickled at something that’s not even funny.”
Our heavenly Father loves to see us care for His children. It turns out He’s a knitter, too. Psalm 139:13 says, “You knit me together in my mother’s womb.”
From the very beginning, God had a plan for all of His children, including Eden. And stitch-by-stitch, He is knitting together a truly remarkable design.
