A Summer Storm
Mia H., 12, Pennsylvania
The sky grows dark,
An amber glow,
Of lightning streaks past.
A thunderclap,
A wall of rain
Sweeps down and past.
Puddles form,
And then
A break in cloud,
The sun pushes back the curtain,
One last feeble thunderclap,
And sun and rainbow adorn sky.
I’d Rather Have Jesus
Hannah Sue K., 13, Texas
You may show me the mines of gold,
Rubies and diamonds and pretty things.
You may show me bountiful food, rich clothes,
The wonderful items purchased by kings.
I’d rather have Jesus.
You may tell me the joys and pleasures of sin,
Rebellion and lying and all.
You may show me what you have put your trust in
To keep you from taking a fall.
I’d rather have Jesus.
You may prove the sorrows that Jesus had,
And claim they will happen to me.
You may tell me only bad things lay ahead,
How my King died on a tree.
I’d rather have Jesus.
So put away your idols you cling to so tight,
Seek the God who saves.
Above all, above all, I wish you’d love Him,
That one day you may say:
“I’d rather have Jesus.”
What to Do
Tyler J., 11, Minnesota
Three little jellyfish: red, green, blue,
Staring at the sky, wond’ring what to do.
“I think,” said Red,
“We should explore the blue.”
“Nay,” said Green,
“Explore the cove o’ the clue.”
“Hey,” said Blue,
“A sunken ship would do.”
So they went their separate ways,
And got lost in the waves.
