Church attendance numbers matter. But they don’t determine success. Faithfulness does. Let us be faithful, my fellow pastor, by His grace and for His glory. And let’s remind ourselves frequently that success is being a faithful steward of what God has entrusted to us, in good times and bad.
What does success look like for a minister of the gospel? Is it a steady growth in church membership? Exceeding your budget? It can be a helpful exercise from time to time for pastors to think about what the numbers are saying. But as we do so, we must always remember this biblical reality: success isn’t measured merely by numbers but by faithfulness.
As we give thanks to God, we will begin to see how God uses our unmet expectations to bring Him glory and bring us joy.
