Dr. John M. Perkins in an author, speaker, bible teacher, civil rights activist and ordained Baptist minister. He was born a sharecropper’s son in Mississippi and went on to found several Christian ministries in low-income areas, including the John M. Perkins Foundation for Reconciliation & Development, Inc., in 1983. Perkins and his wife, Vera Mae, live in Jackson, Miss.
