Alex Azar, United States Secretary of Health and Human Services

Alex Azar

Alex Azar is the United States Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS), a position he’s held since Jan. 25, 2018. An attorney, he served as General Counsel for HHS (2001-2005) and then as Deputy Secretary (2005-2007). From 2007 to 2017, Sec. Azar was a senior executive at Eli Lilly and Company, a pharmaceutical company with its U.S. division based in Indianapolis. He graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in economics and government from Dartmouth College and earned his law degree from Yale University. He then clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia before beginning his formal practice. Learn more about Sec. Azar by visiting the HHS website.
