Ron DeSantis is the 46th Governor of Florida and a native Floridian. He graduated with honors from Yale University, where he also served as the captain of the varsity baseball team. He went on to earn his law degree from Harvard Law School, graduating with honors. During his time at Harvard, DeSantis was commissioned into the U.S. Navy as a Judge Advocate General (JAG) officer. DeSantis deployed to Iraq, where he served as an advisor to a U.S. Navy SEAL commander during critical missions in Fallujah, Ramadi, and throughout Al Anbar province. For his service, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service and the Iraq Campaign Medal. After his military service, DeSantis became a federal prosecutor, focusing on convicting child predators. Elected to Congress in 2012, DeSantis was a vocal advocate for congressional term limits, a balanced budget amendment, and exposing malfeasance within government agencies, including the IRS. He also championed reforms to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and improved mental health services for veterans. In June 2022, he appeared on Focus on the Family, discussing his commitment to being “A Positive Force for the Family.” On a personal note, Ron DeSantis is married to Casey DeSantis, an Emmy-award-winning television host who is now cancer-free after a breast cancer diagnosis. Together, they have three children. Their youngest child, Mamie, holds the distinction of being the first baby born in the Florida Governor’s Mansion in 50 years.
