Headshot of Focus on the Family broadcast guest Walt Heyer

Walt Heyer

Walt Heyer is a highly sought-after public speaker and interview guest with a remarkable story of redemption and restoration that drives his passion to help those who are disillusioned by the transgender life. Born a male, he began his own transgender journey as a young child who had a strong desire to become a female. He resisted that desire into adulthood, got married, and had two children. But at age 42, he made the decision to make the transition both surgically and legally, and became Laura Jensen, a female. Heyer lived as a woman for eight years, and experienced first-hand that a sex change didn’t address the deep-seated childhood trauma that precipitated it, or satisfy the search for true identity. Instead, it inflicted more harm. After years of psychotherapy and the love and support of his church family, Heyer was restored as a male. His detransition story has been featured in numerous articles and documentaries, and he has served as a guest on many well-known programs, including those of Laura Ingram and Glenn Beck. Heyer has written seven books and more than 50 essays for major publications. Learn more about him at his website, waltheyer.com.
