This month’s 248th celebration of our nation’s independence comes during a culturally uneven time. The July 4th fireworks in the skies over American cities and towns might seem tame compared to the ideological and philosophical explosions we see throughout culture these days.
- Abortion activists have pledged to mount an unprecedented push this summer and fall to codify the right to kill innocent preborn babies.
- Radicals are determined to destroy the uniqueness of women’s sports by redefining what a woman even is.
- Parents are running up against the buzzsaw of some teacher unions flexing their metaphorical muscles over what’s taught in the classrooms. And some schools are refusing to inform moms and dads if their son or daughter expresses a desire to “transition” to a different gender.
- Christian parents eager to care and nurture children in foster care are being told they must violate their deeply held religious convictions if they’re to be considered for a placement.
As all of this swirls in the whirlwind, families are struggling to make the ends meet financially as inflation makes everything more expensive. Both political parties are preparing to gather for their respective conventions – weeks that promise to be highly combative and contentious.
The Bright Spot
But I have some good news for you. Despite all worldly appearances to the contrary, God’s sovereignty still reigns supreme. Nothing is happening outside His view, nor without His permission.
There is eternal hope in the face of this chaos. Amidst this increasingly disturbing and hostile climate, friends like you are helping to “hold the line” by articulating God’s plan for families and by extending help and healing to people who want to experience thriving marriages and feel more empowered in their parenting.
“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds” (Hebrews 10:23-24).
Families are the building blocks of our communities and our nation. So, when Christ-centered families are thriving as the foundation of our society, our nation thrives.
A CALL TO PRAY FOR AMERICA’S FAMILIES

Our Heavenly Father hears us, He responds, and He knows what we need before we even ask (Matthew 6:8). Let’s ask the Lord to prosper and protect our homeland and raise up another generation that will defend life and liberty here in our nation and around the world. Even more importantly, we should be praying that He will raise up a generation of Christ-followers who will be focused, above all, on advancing His Kingdom.
In other words, friends, let’s pray for God to bring a spiritual revival to our shores! Please also pray for continued religious freedom in our nation. I believe people in our post-Christian culture are hungry for hope and purpose, and we as God’s people are able to point them to both. But are we willing to make that a priority in our own lives? Will we be beacons of faith and stability for those around us who are searching for meaning and significance?
