One mom’s tears led to life!

Karla didn’t even think she could get pregnant.

She stared at the positive pregnancy test in shock. Karla depends on medications to help with her mental health challenges. She wondered how they would impact the pregnancy. Was it safe for the baby?

Karla felt shame, guilt, and fear. Her abusive ex-boyfriend wanted nothing to do with her or a baby.

“How am I going to keep a baby and myself healthy?” she wondered when she arrived at the pregnancy medical center appointment. “Abortion is my only option.”

The staff member calmly told her to check with her doctor to see if the medications were safe for pregnancy. When she returned for her ultrasound, Karla said the doctor gave his approval. But she still thought abortion was the answer.

That all changed when she met her baby.

Friends like you helped equip the pregnancy medical center with nurse training and sonography machines through the Option Ultrasound program by Focus on the Family. Because of that, Karla was able to see her 6-week-old baby and hear a tiny, but steady heartbeat.

Tears welled up in Karla’s eyes as she saw her little one wriggling around on the ultrasound. They were tears of joy. Karla found the courage to choose life for her baby!

There is something miraculous that connects a mother’s heart to her baby through an ultrasound. This profound encounter, coupled with counseling, leads 54 percent of moms considering abortion to choose life!

Since the Option Ultrasound program began in 2004, more than half a million babies have been saved. It takes just $60 to give a child the chance for a future.

Your generosity also supports our My Choice Network online search that connects moms with pregnancy medical centers so expectant moms can get the help they need. And you help offer abortion pill reversal training for mothers who regret starting a chemical abortion.

Your gifts also help fund grants that enable pregnancy medical centers to stay open in the evenings and on weekends and provide training on adoption opportunities.

When mothers like Karla learn the truth about life in the womb, abortion becomes unthinkable. Thank you for making that possible.

Jim's Heart

Happy New Year from Focus on the Family! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and are eager to see what God has planned for your family and for His kingdom throughout the months ahead. As we usher in 2026, let’s pray together that the Lord will be working in and through His people to bring a desperately needed revival here in America and across the globe.

You may be aware that January is Sanctity of Human Life Month. The immeasurable worth of each human life is one of our core beliefs that I know you share. We don’t need to look very far to see how life is being devalued in today’s culture. We see it on social media where disagreements descend into name-calling and insults (conduct stemming from a heart posture that Matthew 5:22 connects with murder). We see it in the passage of laws that allow physician-assisted suicide. We see it in the escalating violence that fills our news feed every day — whether that be mass shootings, political assassinations, gang-related violence, or physical altercations that break out among strangers over minor conflicts.

And, of course, we see it in the staggering abortion rate. Far too many tiny lives have been lost to abortion — and although Roe v. Wade thankfully was overturned, many states have continued allowing abortion to continue with few restrictions.

In other words, our work isn’t done! That’s why I’m glad you are equipping pregnancy medical centers with nurse sonography training and ultrasound machines as a means of allowing abortion-minded clients to see their babies on the sonogram screen. Since the Option Ultrasound program was launched in 2004, more than half a million preborn babies have been saved from abortion! Not only that, but God has used the dedicated, compassionate staff and volunteers at these centers to lead many folks into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ.

The following story recently arrived at our offices from one of our partner centers:

It began with unexpected chaos.

I was on my way to the office when I saw flashing lights, roadblocks, and caution tape stretched across the street leading to our Center. My heart sank. We had a 16-year-old scheduled for our very first appointment — a young woman abortion-minded and in deep crisis. My immediate thought was, “If I can’t get in … how will she?”

By God’s grace, the police allowed me through after I explained that I needed to open the office for patients. But the questions kept flooding my mind. What if she gives up and leaves? What if this detour sends her straight to the abortion clinic instead?

Then came another call. Our client advocate, also trying to get in, was turned away at the roadblock and had to park blocks away and walk. At that moment, I sent a prayer request to our pastoral board. We knew this was not just a logistical inconvenience — this was spiritual warfare.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world. –Ephesians 6:12

But God. Ten minutes later, the client advocate walked in. Moments after that, so did the young woman.

When asked if she had trouble getting in, she simply replied, “No, I just parked in the lot.” The very lot we thought had been inaccessible. Within fifteen minutes of sending out that prayer request, the road was reopened, and she was in our waiting room — completing her intake forms alongside who we assumed was her boyfriend.

During her consultation, the advocate gently explained the abortion procedures she would be eligible for based on her cycle. This opened the door for the young woman to share her fears, her burdens — and eventually, her heart.

That day, in a tiny counseling room on a once-barricaded street, she encountered the Gospel. She chose life — not just for her unborn child, but for herself. She surrendered her life to Jesus Christ.

Afterward, the pregnancy test came back negative. She was overcome with a strange mix of sorrow and relief. Our advocate gently said, “God must have really wanted your attention today.”

He wasn’t finished yet. When asked about the man in the waiting room, she said, “That’s not my boyfriend — he’s already left the country. That’s just a good friend who didn’t want me to go through this alone.”

Our advocate thanked him for his kindness and said, “Can I tell you about my good friend, Jesus?” He responded, “I’ve actually been thinking a lot about God lately.” That friend, too, gave his life to Christ that morning.

Two souls were saved that day — all because the door was open, the lights were on, and there was a team ready to receive them.

What an incredible account of the way God removed literal roadblocks to lead two people to salvation! And while this young girl turned out not to be pregnant, many others who are bearing precious infants in their wombs have made the decision to give life to these little ones as a direct result of Option Ultrasound and the faithful work you help support at the centers.

This lifesaving, soul-saving impact is sustained by the generosity of friends like you who have chosen to come alongside us with prayer and financial support. We are deeply grateful for those who tangibly and sacrificially provide for pro-life endeavors.

If you or someone you know is facing an unexpected pregnancy, I urge you to find a pregnancy medical center near you using My Choice Network (https://mcn.care/). You’re also welcome to call and speak with one of our caring staff counselors by dialing 1-855-771-HELP.

Thank you for standing with us as we advocate for the tiniest and most vulnerable among us. May the Lord guide you and your loved ones throughout the coming year, and “may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way” (2 Thessalonians 3:16).

Sincerely,

Jim Daly
