I’m excited to update you on our latest Adventures in Odyssey project to share the message of the Gospel with children and families: an animated film called Journey into the Impossible releasing in 2026 in theaters. There is a great deal of excitement about this film, both here at the ministry and among our many avid fans of the beloved characters that make up the small, fictional town called Odyssey.
Thanks to generous donors who supported the radio launch of Adventures in Odyssey over 38 years ago, millions of people have come to know and love Whit, Connie, Eugene, Wooten, and the various other quirky and endearing Odyssey residents. Their lives and stories have resonated deeply with listeners — young and old alike — for nearly four decades, and we regularly receive correspondence from those who tell us about the positive impact this series has had on them.
It’s always a joy to share the stories made possible through your generosity. From children to teens, fans tell us about how a particular episode helped them learn an important lesson, navigate a difficult situation, or face significant trials with courage and perseverance. These precious kids often come to love the Odyssey characters as if they were their own friends, and even adults write to us to share that they’ve been tuning in to Adventures in Odyssey for years and continue to benefit from each episode.
I think the reason this audio series has maintained such a loyal fan base for all these years is for the simple reason that there is tremendous power in well-told stories. Jesus often used parables to impart truth and wisdom to His followers, and I know every one of us can think of novels, films, plays, or audio dramas that made a deep impression on us and maybe even left us changed in some way.
In the introduction to the book of Exodus in his paraphrase of the Bible, Eugene Peterson put it this way:
It is significant that God does not present us with salvation in the form of an abstract truth, or a precise definition or a catchy slogan, but as story … Story is an invitation to participate, first through our imagination and then, if we will, by faith — with our total lives in response to God.[1]
The reality of that message is why we’re especially enthusiastic about the animated film, which has the potential to reach even more people with biblical truth conveyed in an engaging, entertaining, and memorable way. Our writers and producers have worked hard to ensure that this film will stay true to all the unique elements that have made Adventures in Odyssey so popular, while depicting the intriguing back story of its most endearing and cherished characters.
The film is an origin story that follows Whit and his family when they first moved to the town of Odyssey. A younger, middle-aged Whit leads his family on this thrilling adventure packed with mystery, twists, turns, and surprises! Through it all, we learn how God uses us to accomplish the impossible.
Just as each episode of our radio series examines life, morality, and Gospel truths through the vehicle of story, this film also aims to touch hearts and minds by pointing viewers to the ultimate source of our hope: Jesus Christ.

I want to say thank you for all the Odyssey stories. My 9-year-old daughter asked Jesus into her heart recently because of them.
