Marriage Devotional: Could Your Husband Be God’s Most Admired?

Boaz was not a national leader or great general. He was just an ordinary man who honored God and the people around him. God blessed him greatly.

Today’s Scripture

Now Naomi had a relative of her husband’s, a worthy man of the clan of Elimelech, whose name was Boaz. Ruth 2:1, ESV

Today’s Devotional

Since 1946, the Gallup Organization has asked Americans who they admire most. The answers include Presidents, First Ladies, generals, leaders, and the Reverend Billy Graham. Graham has been on the annual top ten list an astonishing 61 times.

That’s “our” list. The people we admire. Who does God admire? He doesn’t pick favorites, but the Bible tells stories of men and women who honor Him. One of them is a man named Boaz. He is a leading character in the Book of Ruth. The Bible describes him as a worthy man who is kind, God-honoring, and bold. He shows respect to all and willingly redeems Ruth and Naomi’s family name.

While he was a wealthy, well-known man in his tribe and clan, he was not a national leader or a great general. He was just an ordinary man who faithfully honored God and the people around him. God admired his qualities and blessed him greatly.

The world around us associates greatness with accomplishments. The greater the accomplishment, the greater the man. Or so we think. But God has a different way of looking at things. He sees the value of a faithful, ordinary man who honors Him and cares for those around him.

For men reading today’s devotion, look to Boaz’s example. With God’s help, you can become a “worthy man” like Boaz who is remembered for his character and integrity. For women, encourage your husband when he is following God and invite him to step into the role God has for him.

The world needs to see men and women of character – admirable people whose lives reflect Jesus Christ in their words and actions.

Today’s Prayer

Heavenly Father, we want to become a couple you admire. May we always reflect Jesus in our words and actions so that others see and admire you. Amen.

Divorce Was Never God’s Intention

Only one man and one woman existed in the beginning. For that very obvious reason, divorce and remarriage were not options in the divine plan for man.
