Today’s Scripture
“Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long” (Psalm 25:4-5, NIV).
Today’s Devotion
When Nik’s parents weren’t shooting at him with a BB gun, they were throwing things at him. He says they were just trying to teach him how to become a well-balanced person.
What kind of a parent does things like that?
Nik Wallenda, King David, and the Search for Balance
Nik Wallenda is a seventh-generation tightrope walker, so learning to deal with distractions and staying balanced are key job skills. So far, he’s crossed the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, and a volcano. He’s also set nine world records. It appears the training has been worthwhile.
Nik doesn’t just dodge BBs and duck when things are thrown his way. He trains consistently and exercises his mind. Tightrope walking, he says, is mostly mental. He must be intentional to focus on each step. Talk about work/life balance!
Speaking of which, we all struggle to find such balance. Erin and I work daily to find equilibrium between work, travel, writing, teaching, kids, and rest. I’m sure you and your spouse face a similar challenge.
A Daily Prayer for Balance
Surprisingly, this isn’t new. Even King David had to make daily choices. And he approached those choices with a prayer: “Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long” (Psalm 25:4-5, NIV).
FINDING BALANCE IN YOUR MARRIAGE
As you and your spouse make decisions about schedules, schools, kids, and careers, I invite you to make David’s prayer yours. To seek God’s guidance and ask Him to direct your paths. Each step you take in life matters.
Find balance by seeking God’s wisdom and direction every day.
Today’s Prayer
Heavenly Father, I echo King David’s prayer, “Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths.” Amen.
