Aquila and Priscilla were united in spiritual intimacy. They shared a faith and a mission. They served God together. As one.

Today’s Scripture

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen. 2 Peter 3:18, ESV

Today’s Devotion

We see them as an ancient power couple—united in spiritual intimacy—movers and shakers in the early Church. And they were. But Priscilla and Aquila were also an everyday couple who struggled with the political complexities of their day and felt the pressure of making ends meet.

So, what makes them different from you and me? They were friends (and employers) of the Apostle Paul. That’s not something we’ll ever experience. But beyond that, Aquila and Priscilla were united in spiritual intimacy. They shared a faith and a mission. They served God together. As one. They’re always mentioned as a couple. They hosted a church. They mentored Christian leaders. They traveled together. Aquila and Priscilla were a “package deal.” God honored them by telling their story. Together.

Spiritual intimacy—unity—isn’t limited to the First Century. It’s available to you and your spouse today. We’re told in 2 Peter 3:18 to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ” (ESV). You can grow in your faith as an individual and you can also grow together with your spouse.

Maybe that’s what makes Priscilla and Aquila’s story so remarkable. They grew in their faith and served Christ together. What’s even more remarkable is that you and I can do the same!

Today’s Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for my spouse. Thank you that we’ve grown together in our love for each other. Remind us to grow together in you as well. Amen.
