Today’s Scripture

May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 15:5-6

Today’s Devotion

Friends through thick and thin
Friends to the very end
I think you would agree

That’s how it is for you and me. [1]

Some things are better together.

Like peanut butter and chocolate.

Or that couple who are always in sync. Always together. A package deal. United in marriage and ministry.

There’s a couple in the Bible who fits that description. Their names are Priscilla and Aquila. Every time you read about them, they’re always together. You get one, you get the other. They’re always working together. Always serving together.

They welcomed the Apostle Paul into their home and business when he was in Corinth.

They traveled with Paul and helped him share the Gospel.

They mentored a speaker named Apollos so that his message was more effective and powerful.

They hosted a church in their home.

They risked their lives for the Apostle Paul.

They supported a young pastor named Timothy as he led the Church in Ephesus.

Wherever they went, whatever they did, they were always together. And they shared a purpose: two hearts beating as one with a passion for the Gospel and God’s people.

They were united in marriage and ministry.

You and your spouse can do the same. You can have a shared purpose that unites you as a couple and advances the Gospel message. Maybe, like Priscilla and Aquila, you can serve your church. Or travel on a mission trip. Or mentor a younger couple.

As you follow God’s call, we pray Romans 15:5-6 over your marriage: May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (NIV).

When you and your spouse are united in marriage and ministry, you can accomplish great things for God. Together. As a package deal. Like Priscilla and Aquila.

Because some things are better together.

Like peanut butter and chocolate.

Hmm … peanut butter and chocolate.

If you’ll excuse me, I’m off to get a snack.

Today’s Prayer

Heavenly Father, give us endurance and encouragement so that we may serve you with one heart, mind, and voice. Amen.
