Maybe folks need a reminder that marriage is a “wonderful thing.” Maybe they need to see a married couple – you and your spouse – treat each other as valuable as King Tut’s gold.

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the LORD. Proverbs 18:22, ESV

TODAY’S DEVOTION

The story goes that just before King Tut’s tomb was excavated, workers made a small hole in a wall for archaeologist Howard Carter to peer inside. “What do you see?” someone asked Carter. His answer? “Wonderful things.”

Wonderful things indeed!

Howard Carter’s discovery still fascinates us today. Who wouldn’t want to uncover a similar – or even greater – treasure? And what other forgotten wonders will future adventurers uncover?

Here’s a treasure culture seems to overlook — marriage.

Think about it. When was the last time you heard someone refer to a spouse as a treasure?

Scripture tells a different story. That our spouse is a gift from God (Proverbs 19:14). A treasure worth more than rubies (Proverbs 31:10). Proverbs 18:22 says that “He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the LORD” (ESV).

That’s not what culture says. They claim marriage is just a piece of paper. That the ceremony is nothing but an expensive show. And that the entire idea is “old fashioned.”

That’s no way to treat a treasure!

Maybe folks need a reminder that marriage is a “wonderful thing.” Maybe they need to see a married couple – you and your spouse – treat each other as valuable as King Tut’s gold. And if the Maker of Marriage called it very good, then shouldn’t people hear those words?

You can’t change the entire culture, but you and your spouse can encourage another couple to risk the adventure or marriage and find a treasure worth more than rubies.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank you for the treasure of my spouse. Use us as examples to show others your plan for marriage is good. Amen.
