Today’s Scripture
“The name of the LORD is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe” (Proverbs 18:10, NIV)
Today’s Devotion
Sometimes when I’m working from home, I’ll take a few minutes to enjoy the view from our kitchen window. We’re blessed to work in Colorado Springs where the mountains are across the street, and I can watch spectacular sunrises and sunsets. I’ve also watched severe storms sweep down from the mountains and cover our neighborhood with heavy winds, rains, or snows.
The view outside my window changes constantly, but it doesn’t affect the atmosphere inside.
Your Marriage and Life’s Storms
What’s true about my kitchen window can also be true about your marriage. The “weather of life” can change in an instant, but you and your spouse can turn your marriage into a haven – a shelter – when the storms come.
Building Safety and Connection
- Invite God into your week. Take a few minutes each day to pray for your marriage or read a passage of scripture together. “The name of the LORD is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe” (Proverbs 18:10, NIV).
- Notice and share appreciation. Write down one thing you admire about your spouse each day and tell them. You could even keep a running list together.
- Take a small, intentional action. Ask your spouse, “I want to support you—what would help today?” Then follow through and check in afterward.
Build a marriage that feels like the safest place on earth so that no matter the weather outside your window, you and your spouse have a haven from life’s storms.
Today’s Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for offering us sanctuary from life’s storms. Amen.
