Your Marriage vs Fort Knox

Share:
Your heart deserves Fort Knox-levels of protection. Put Proverbs 4:23 into action and "Keep your heart with all vigilance."

Today’s Scripture

Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life” (Proverbs 4:23, ESV).

Today’s Devotion

No one gets in Fort Knox without permission. It’s surrounded by tanks, razor wire, and other security precautions we don’t know about. It’s one of the safest places on earth.

We do all that just to guard gold. Your heart is worth much, much more! It deserves Fort Knox-levels of protection.

How does this connect to your marriage?

Guard Your Heart

In a recent podcast with Jerry Jenkins, you know the Left Behind guy! He reminded me of Proverbs 4:23: “Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life” (ESV). This verse is just part of a list of instructions for life: listen to wisdom, guard your heart, watch your words, be mindful of what you look at (and where you tend to gaze), and follow God’s path.

If that sounds like a tall order, that’s because it is!

It’s All About Your Heart.

What you think about, look at, or dwell on can make or break your relationship with your spouse.

Start building a “Fort Knox” for your heart. Use Scripture as a security system to screen your thoughts. If the thought doesn’t line up with God’s Word, it’s got to go.

TAKE ACTION

  • Memorize Proverbs 4:23 with your spouse.
  • Check out our podcast with Jerry Jenkins to hear more here.
  • Create a “heart security system” by naming one boundary each of you wants to put in place to guard your thoughts.
  • Check our Jerry Jenkins book Hedges: 7 Ways to Love Your Wife and Protect Your Marriage.

One does not simply walk into Fort Knox. Sinful thoughts should not simply stroll through your mind. Guard your heart.

Today’s Prayer

Heavenly Father, I can’t do this on my own. Please guard me heart and guard our marriage. Amen.
