Jack Phillips

Jack Phillips is a cake artist and the owner/operator of Masterpiece Cakeshop in Lakewood, Colo. He and his business attracted nationwide attention when, in July, 2012, two men asked him to create a custom wedding cake celebrating their same-sex ceremony. Because of his Christian beliefs, Jack politely declined, and the couple filed a discrimination complaint which eventually went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. On June 4, 2018, the Court ruled in Jack’s favor, but he has since been compelled to return to the legal arena to defend his rights and in doing so, has helped protect the rights of other creative professionals as well. Jack has written a book about his experiences titled The Cost of My Faith: How a Decision in My Cake Shop Took Me to the Supreme Court.
