John 3:16 is one of the most popular Bible verses in the world. You may have heard it in Sunday School as a child, or seen a poster with “John 3:16” at a football game. But what does it mean for you and your family today?
Quite simply, the message of John 3:16 is the most important one you’ll ever hear. It’s a message of God’s love for all people. It’s the message of hope found in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son who was sent into the world to save us from our sins. Why do we need saving? The Bible tells us in Romans 3:23 that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” We’ve all been guilty of breaking God’s law, and our sin (law-breaking) separates us from Him.
The sobering reality is that our sin leads to death and eternal condemnation. Romans 6:23 tells us that “the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Because of God’s great love, Jesus was sent into the world to live the perfect life we could not live and to die the death that we deserved to die. He was raised to life that we might have eternal life through Him. This is amazingly wonderful news! Do you believe?
