Today’s Scripture
“David found strength in the Lord his God” (1 Samuel 30:6, NIV).
Today’s Devotion
I keep snacks in my office. Some days my schedule is so hectic that I can’t sit down and eat lunch, so it helps to have something handy. But a few days ago, I realized I’d eaten a bag of chips and then reached for more. About halfway through the second bag, I stopped. What am I doing, I wondered. And then it hit me: I wasn’t hungry. I was stressed and grabbed the second bag of chips for “comfort food.”
Know the feeling?
Maybe you’re fighting stress in your marriage. Maybe you and your spouse had a disagreement, or there’s an unexpected repair bill, or the kids are acting up again. The stress is building and you’re not sure what to do.
If so, you’re in good company. In 1 Samuel 30, David – the shepherd-turned-warrior – found himself dealing with the unexpected stress of a raid on his village. His family, and the families of his 600 fighting men, were gone. No one knew if they had been killed or taken captive.
What would you do when fighting that kind of stress?
Scripture tells us that “David found strength in the Lord his God” (1 Samuel 30:6, NIV).
The God who gave David strength stands ready to help you and your spouse fight with the stress you encounter each day. He’s waiting for you to invite Him into the struggle so He can strengthen you and your marriage.
What are you waiting for? Go ahead and ask Him to help. No comfort food needed!
