In a season of transition, it's easy to feel a loss of connection with your spouse. If you're in a time of need, ask God for help.

Today’s Scripture

“Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned, in whatever situation I am, to be content. 12 I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. 13 I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:11b-13, ESV)

Today’s Devotion

Sometimes it feels like change is the only certainty in life. The transition into fall is especially filled with changes—kids (and teachers) go back to school, family vacations end, and college students move out.

In times of transition, it’s easy to feel a loss of connection with your spouse. Moving into a new season of life means that your relationship with your spouse is going to change. Whether you’re about to become first-time parents or empty nesters, you’ll have new challenges, new joys, new points of conflict, and new opportunities to grow together.

Moving from one season to another can be stressful, but Scripture holds the secret to greeting life’s challenges with grace and strength. Paul shares this secret at the end of his letter to the Philippians. The secret to contentment is found not in circumstances, but in Christ Jesus and the strength that He provides.

There will be seasons of need and abundance in your marriage. If you’re experiencing abundance, thank God for the blessings He’s placed in your life. If you’re in a time of need, ask Him to grant you grace, strength, and a special love for your spouse. God delights to help His children when they ask Him.

Today’s Prayer

Lord, help us to rely on you in times of abundance and times of need. We know that you give generously to those who ask you for strength. Help us to grow closer to each other during times of change and transition. Amen.
