Faith Conversation: Learning to Wait

We can learn to be patient with our husband or wife because we know it fosters harmony and growth in marriage. This devotion offers questions to start a conversation about patience.

As a couple, discuss the book of James. Read each chapter together or individually, then focus your conversation on the passage and discussion questions below.

“Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains” (James 5:7).

  • What was it like to wait for things when you were a kid?
  • When was the last time you felt God asking you to be patient?
  • How can we help each other be more patient in our daily lives?

We practice it in line at the grocery store, we whisper it to our children, and sometimes we even run out of it. In many of the circumstances we face, patience is essential. This trait allows us to endure hard things and wait for good things. A farmer plants his crops and is patient for the rain because he knows the rain brings growth to the seeds. Likewise, we learn to be patient with our husband or wife because we know it fosters harmony and growth in marriage.
