Praying for your wife is one of the best things you can do for your relationship!

WHY YOU SHOULD PRAY FOR YOUR WIFE

God has placed you as a spiritual leader in your home, and praying for your wife is a powerful way to lead. When you pray, you live out God’s instructions for husbands in Ephesians 5:25-27: “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the Word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless” (NIV).

Every time I read that verse, I’m drawn to the phrase, “cleansing her by the washing of water in the word.” I’ve taken that as a challenge to pray Scripture (the Word) over Erin as she counsels others, speaks, and serves Christ. I want to see her thriving, growing in her faith, and influencing others.

I encourage you to do the same. To help you start praying for your wife, I’ve collected ten Scriptures and prayers to pray over her each day.

SCRIPTURES TO PRAY OVER YOUR WIFE

A Prayer of Thanksgiving

  • Scripture: Philippians 1:3 – “I thank my God every time I remember you” (NIV).

  • Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for my wife! She is a wonderful gift from you. Please remind me to cherish her every day. Amen.

A Prayer of Encouragement

  • Scripture: 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 – “May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word” (NIV).

  • Prayer: Heavenly Father, today, my wife will face unexpected challenges. Please encourage her when those challenges feel like too much to bear. Show me ways I can support and encourage her today. Amen.

A Prayer for Protection

  • Scripture: Psalm 18:30 – “As for God, his way is perfect; The LORD’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him (NIV).”

  • Prayer: Heavenly Father, it’s a crazy world. My wife is headed into it today. Keep her safe as she drives, works, walks, and serves you. Amen.

A Prayer for Rest

  • Scripture: Psalm 55:22 – “Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken” (NIV).

  • Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for how my wife serves our family. She carries a heavy load. Please give her rest – physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Show me ways I can lift her burdens and encourage her to rest. Amen.

A Prayer for Wisdom

  • Scripture: Proverbs 2:6 – “For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding” (NIV).

  • Prayer: Heavenly Father, my wife already makes so many wise decisions about her job, our home, and our family. Please keep giving her wisdom and reassurance. Show me ways I can thank her and encourage her in her work. Amen

A Prayer for Her Goals

  • Scripture: Psalm 37:4 – “Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart” (NIV).

  • Prayer: Heavenly Father, I know my wife has dreams and goals. Give her opportunities to pursue those desires and to serve you in those pursuits. Amen.

A Prayer for Grace

  • Scripture: 2 Corinthians 12:9 – “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me” (NIV).

  • Prayer: Heavenly Father, I know my wife works hard – in the marketplace, our home, and among her friends. She carries a heavy load. Give her strength. Give her rest. And show me how I can encourage her to take time to relax and recharge. Amen.

A Prayer for Peace

  • Scripture: Colossians 3:15 – “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful” (NIV).

  • Prayer: Heavenly Father, I don’t know how she does it, but my wife seems to know just how to listen and encourage. I also know that she has her own emotional needs. Please whisper peace to her heart as she serves you and others today. Amen.

A Prayer for Strength

  • Scripture: Psalm 68:35 – “You, God, are awesome in your sanctuary; the God of Israel gives power and strength to his people. Praise be to God!” (NIV)

  • Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you again for my wife. I admire her willingness to serve and influence others for your kingdom. Remind her that your mighty power is at work in her. Expand her influence so others can be blessed through her work and words. Amen.

A Prayer for Spiritual Growth

  • Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 – “May God himself, the God who makes everything holy and whole, make you holy and whole, put you together—spirit, soul, and body—and keep you fit for the coming of our Master, Jesus Christ. The One who called you is completely dependable. If he said it, he’ll do it! (The Message)”

  • Prayer: Heavenly Father, I pray that my wife will continue to grow closer to you each day. And as your Word says, make her holy and whole, put her together —spirit, soul, and body—and keep her fit for the coming of our Master, Jesus Christ. Amen.

PRAY FOR YOUR WIFE EVERY DAY

Pray these Scriptures over your wife each day. As a spiritual leader, look for ways to encourage her to grow emotionally and spiritually so that she is free to serve Christ and follow His calling to make a powerful difference in His kingdom.
