Showing Christ to a Muslim Family Member

Bible open to gospel of John

Can you suggest any specific Bible passages that might open the eyes of my Muslim spouse to the lordship of Jesus Christ and help our children to grow in their understanding of the Christian faith? My husband has been a Muslim all his life, whereas I was born and raised in a Christian home. To some outsiders this sounds like an unworkable arrangement, but as a matter of fact there's a great deal of spiritual openness and flexibility at our house. We gather the whole family together for prayers and scriptural readings every night. I'm pleased to say that my husband is always happy to have me share something from the Bible. What would you recommend?

If your husband is Muslim, then you must already be aware that Islam holds the person of Jesus in high regard. It’s true that the Qur’an denies that He was divine in any way. It also calls Christians “idolaters” because they worship Him as the Son of God. In spite of this, the holy book of Islam honors Jesus the son of Mary as one of the greatest of the prophets who came before Muhammad. This in itself could be an important “opening” for your family.

Encourage your husband to take a close look at Jesus and to keep his eyes focused on Him. If he does, we believe that he may eventually begin to see and understand the life-changing message revealed to us in the face of the Living Word (John 1:14). If you’re looking for Bible readings to help him move in this direction, we’d advise you to start by going through the Gospels. Read through them together, paying special attention to the Gospel of John. As John himself puts it, “No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him” (John 1:18). This, as far as we’re concerned, is where the journey toward genuine Christian faith has to begin.
