As a couple, discuss the book of 1 John. Read each chapter together or individually, then focus your conversation on the following passage and discussion questions. “Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness. Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and in him there is no cause for stumbling” (1 John 2:9-10).
- When has someone offered you unexpected grace?
- Who from your past have you had a difficult time forgiving?
- What can we do to more readily show forgiveness to each other?
Again and again, God forgives our mistakes. When it comes to marriage, we need to have that same kind of love. Although we’ll inevitably fail each other, we can offer forgiveness and display God’s love for us. Offering grace can grow and improve our marriage relationships, so let’s be quick to say, “I’m sorry,” and even quicker to say, “I forgive you.”
