As a couple, read the Nativity story found in Luke 2, then focus your conversation on the Scripture verse below and discuss the questions that follow.
“If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” (Matthew 7:11).
- What was the best gift you received as a child? What was the worst gift?
- How does it change the way you live when you know that God wants to give you good things?
- How can I help you live a life of gratitude to God?
We don’t always know what’s inside a wrapped gift, but we expect something good. Likewise, in marriage, we expect good things. But when married life doesn’t turn out like we’d hoped, we question whether God truly gave us something good. Receiving a gift with grace means trusting in the goodness of the giver, no matter what our impression of the gift might be. Jesus reminds us during times of doubt that we have a good Father who gives good gifts.
