As a couple, discuss the book of Romans. Read each chapter together or individually, then focus your conversation on the following passage and discussion questions.
“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us” (Romans 8:18).
- Talk about a time when God used something negative in your life to improve your character.
- In our relationship, how have times of suffering produced hope?
- How can we handle difficult times better?
The apostle Paul reminds us that suffering often serves a higher purpose. God uses difficulties in our lives to increase our faith and hone our character. We might experience suffering that is internal or external, but suffering of some sort is inevitable in every marriage. When we learn to turn our eyes and our hearts to God during those times, we have the opportunity to draw closer to each other as a couple, as well as to our heavenly Father.
