Trees grow because they're connected to a source of water that sustains them. Just like the tree, your marriage needs to stay connected to the Source — Jesus Christ.

TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. Psalm 1:1-3 (ESV)

TODAY’S DEVOTION

Trees don’t marry. They know nothing about marriage. But they have a secret that will transform your marriage.

It’s this: Trees grow because they’re connected to a source of water that sustains them in all types of weather — in seasons of moisture and drought.

Psalm 1 explains how that secret relates to your marriage and your life.

If you want your marriage to grow strong, connect to the Source. Psalm 1 says you have two choices: seeking sustenance in worldly wisdom or rooting yourself firmly in God’s Word. The Psalmist also shares the outcomes of each option. The ungodly wither away like dust in the wind. They have no source of life that nourishes them through life’s unpredictable weather.

The godly, however, grow strong because they’ve accepted Christ’s invitation in John 7:37-39: “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’ (ESV)”

The secret to a strong marriage is a connection to the Source.

How will you connect to Him this summer? Make time to seek answers – to seek life – in God’s Word. Surround yourself with godly people who will encourage you and your spouse.

Remember the trees’ secret: Stay connected to the Source.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Heavenly Father, you are the source of life and marriage. Remind us to draw on your wisdom and guidance as we face uncertain seasons in life. Could you help us stay connected to you? Amen.
